Stem cell therapy

The stem cell therapy at Trinicum takes about 1.5 hours and is outpatient. It is performed according to the company Arthrex – one of the largest companies worldwide in this field: Fat tissue is taken, the stem cells are processed and administered with blood plasma to the desired location. Dr. Anton Wukovits is one of Austria's most experienced cartilage specialists, who, in addition to pain therapeutic consultation and treatment at Trinicum, also offers stem cell therapy for joint wear (osteoarthritis) and sports injuries. As part of the treatment, the complaints are discussed in detail, further examinations are carried out if necessary, and a medical indication is made based on the latest scientific findings.

The advantages of stem cell therapy

  • possible improvement of everyday mobility
  • possible pain reduction and thus improvement of quality of life
  • minimally invasive procedure
  • outpatient procedure with a short duration (approx. 1.5 hours)
  • significantly lower risk of side effects compared to surgical use of joint prostheses (e.g., infections)
  • potential postponement or avoidance of a joint prosthesis
  • rapid and lasting pain relief during sports activity
  • short recovery time with quick return to everyday life
  • long-term effect
  • possible increase in cartilage thickness

Stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis

Practically all joints can be affected by osteoarthritis. Over the course of life, the cartilage layers of the joints wear down. The body cannot replace them itself. Due to the wear, the cartilage frays, and over time the bones rub against each other and the joint stiffens. Stem cells can act precisely here and relieve the joint.

In severely damaged joints, stem cell therapy can be attempted to avoid surgery and the use of a prosthesis on the joint.

What is stem cell therapy?
Stem cell therapy is a modern, minimally invasive treatment in which the body's own stem cells are extracted from fatty tissue and injected into damaged joints to relieve pain and promote regeneration.
How does stem cell therapy work for osteoarthritis?
Stem cells are taken from abdominal fat, processed, and injected together with the patient's own blood plasma into the affected joint. There, they support the healing of cartilage tissue and reduce inflammation.
From which tissue are stem cells obtained?
At Trinicum, the stem cells come from the patient's own fatty tissue, as it is particularly rich in regenerative cells.
Is stem cell therapy minimally invasive?
Yes, the treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and is minimally invasive, without large incisions or extended hospital stays.
Is stem cell therapy possible on an outpatient basis?
Yes, Trinicum performs the treatment on an outpatient basis; a hospital stay is not necessary.
How many sessions are necessary?
Usually, one session is sufficient, as the stem cells have a long-lasting effect.
Which joints can be treated?
Commonly treated joints are knees, hips, shoulders, and ankles. Smaller joints such as elbows or wrists can also be treated.
Is the treatment painful?
The therapy is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients report only a slight pressure sensation during the injection or a brief pulling sensation at the extraction site.
How long does stem cell therapy take?
The entire process—from extracting the stem cells to injection—takes about 1.5 hours and can be done on an outpatient basis. Afterwards, you can usually go home immediately.
How quickly does stem cell therapy work?
Initial improvements in pain and mobility are often noticeable after 4-6 weeks. The full effect can develop over several months.
How safe is stem cell therapy?
Since the body's own cells are used, the therapy is very safe. Possible side effects are rare and usually limited to mild redness, swelling, or short-term joint pain.
Who can receive stem cell therapy?
Suitable for patients with osteoarthritis, cartilage damage, or sports injuries for whom conservative measures such as physiotherapy or medication have not provided sufficient help.
How does stem cell therapy help with knee osteoarthritis?
The injected stem cells promote cartilage regeneration, reduce inflammation, and improve joint function, which can significantly reduce pain.
Is stem cell therapy suitable for hip osteoarthritis?
Yes, stem cell therapy can also reduce pain and improve mobility in hip osteoarthritis.
Can stem cell therapy treat sports injuries?
Yes, especially for cartilage and joint injuries, the therapy can accelerate healing and restore load-bearing capacity.
When will you notice the first improvements?
Initial improvements in pain and mobility often occur after 4-6 weeks.
Can stem cell therapy replace surgery?
In many cases, the therapy can delay or prevent surgery, especially in early-stage osteoarthritis.

Stem Cell Therapy for Arthrosis

Over one‘s life experience, the cartilage layers of the joints wear out causing the joint to lose important cartilage tissue that the body itself cannot replace. This is exactly where the stem cells can act and provide relief for the body.
