When should I go see a urologist?

You should not be afraid to visit a urologist. If you are feeling either some discomfort in your private parts or when urinating, a urologist is the best person to contact. You may want to go see a urologist if you are suffering from incontinence, infertility, pain during sexual intercourse or in the kidney area.

When it comes to cancer screening, men over the age of 45 are advised to have their prostate examined regularly.

What can I expect during urological treatment?

As with all other specialities, in our urology department we begin with a detailed medical history. During this process, we take information about your family history, we ask if you are taking any medication or discuss how frequently you urinate at night. This is followed by a physical examination, during which we examine the abdominal and pelvic areas and the genitals, including the prostate in men, if they consent to this.

How is the prostate examination performed?

During the prostate exam, the urologist will place their fingers into the rectum and feel the prostate for potential tumours. An ultrasound can also be used during the examination to take a look at the prostate and bladder.

If prostate cancer is detected, what should be done?

If an enlargement of the prostate is felt, follow-up examinations are carried out to rule out a malignant tumour. Not all prostate enlargements indicate cancer. However, it is important to attend the health check-ups with the doctor so that they can react quickly and therefore increase your chances of recovery.

Which organs do a urologist treat?

Urologists not only focus on the prostate but also the male reproductive organs. The kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra of both men and women also exhibit symptoms that need to be treated.

What is the role of a urologist?

We would recommend that you see a urologist if you experience kidney pain, pain when urinating or during sexual intercourse. Urological examinations are carried out to find the cause of the symptoms so that treatment can begin immediately. In acute situations, this may be administering medication or prescribing targeted pelvic floor exercises. A detailed medical history and physical examination are important.

If you are unsure about possible surgery, you are welcome to ask us for a second opinion.

If you have any doubts, please get yourself examined by a urologist. We will be happy to advise you.
