What is an allergy?

An allergy is an overreaction of the human immune system to certain substances that are normally completely harmless to humans. This overreaction usually manifests in physical symptoms such as a rash, a runny nose, headaches, or nausea. The symptoms vary depending on the allergy and can also vary individually.

How do I recognize an allergy?

Allergies can manifest in a variety of ways, with symptoms ranging from a rash to headaches, dizziness, and nausea. The physical reaction can range from mild to severe (such as breathing problems), and the reactions can occur rapidly or escalate slowly.

Often, allergies cannot be self-diagnosed and must be diagnosed by specialists such as dermatologists using various tests (such as blood, skin, or provocation tests) as well as a detailed medical history interview. The correct diagnosis is crucial for the proper treatment of the allergy.

Is an allergy inherited or can one develop an allergy?

Some allergies can be present from birth as they are inherited. However, symptoms do not necessarily have to be present from birth and can develop gradually.

However, allergies can develop at any age, both in childhood and adulthood. Allergies can also occur after prolonged illness or changes in life circumstances, or due to environmental factors.

Are allergies curable?

The symptoms of most allergies can be alleviated through conventional and integrative therapies. Depending on the allergy and the severity of the symptoms, a significant reduction in symptoms or symptom-free status can be achieved, meaning that no symptoms are shown.

Allergies are not considered curable, but the right combination of therapy can achieve long-lasting relief from symptoms.

Does acupuncture help with allergies?

Recent Western acupuncture research has focused intensively on ENT (ear, nose, and throat) complaints. Therefore, acupuncture is now considered a proven method for allergies and intolerances, as well as for chronic sinusitis, ear pain, or tinnitus.

Acupuncture treatment can have a particularly positive effect on the immune system, and it has a soothing and irritation-reducing effect on the mucous membranes.

We work closely with orthomolecular medicine therapy (nutrient medicine) in this area. The combination of both treatment methods can achieve lasting and sustainable success in ENT complaints.

What therapies are used for allergies?

There are a variety of therapies for treating allergies. At TRINICUM, we have found that a combination of conventional and integrative therapies achieves the best and most sustainable results. In addition to classic therapies, we focus in particular on acupuncture, nutritional medicine, and infusion therapy. The combination of therapies is individually determined for each patient and discussed with them.

When should therapy begin?

For seasonal allergies, such as pollen allergies, we recommend starting therapy several months before the allergy season begins. This allows the body to be ideally prepared and strengthened for the allergy season.

Therapy before the start of your allergy season is primarily aimed at preventing symptoms, meaning that they are significantly alleviated or do not occur. In contrast, treatment during the allergy season often focuses on symptom management, especially if they are already occurring more strongly.

We therefore recommend starting your therapy before the start of your allergy season so that you can strengthen your body optimally and achieve the best therapy results.

What is a cross allergy?

With an allergy, it can happen that allergic symptoms occur when in contact with different allergens, which are usually cross allergies. Many of the common allergens, such as pollen or plants, have similar molecules to other substances. Therefore, the body may also react with an allergic reaction to these similar molecules.

Cross allergies often occur between pollen allergens and food allergens, such as with a birch allergy and the associated cross-reaction with hazelnuts.
